I read with interest the correspondence “Hands – free leg support for sciatic nerve blocks”. The leg holder that is described in this correspondence may not be available in all the hospitals. In the absence of such a leg holder, I would like to explain a technique, which is quite useful and less tiring for the anaesthetic assistants. The anaesthetist who is performing the block sits on the trolley. The leg to be blocked is bent at the knee, and placed on the shoulder of the anaesthetist. An anaesthetic assistant is required just to steady the operating leg and prevent the leg from falling. Even though the leg rests on the shoulder of the anaesthetist, it is not very strenuous and it is certainly not tiring for the anaesthetic assistants.
